Brewery and Distillery tours
Distillery Tours
There are a lot of whiskey tours in Ireland. The tourists love ’em.
Whiskey distillery tours are a little less common, but more interesting.
Jameson
Probably the most popular distillery tour. But, two things, one it’s not actually a distillery any more, Jameson moved all their production to Cork. Two, their web page is broken. Meh.
Teeling
Teeling is a working distillery in the Liberties that makes a very nice whiskey. They have a good tour, and serve some interesting cocktails (they have beehives on the roof of the distillery they harvest honey from for several of their cocktails).
Dublin Liberties Distillery
I’ve not been here, but it’s a modern distillery in the Liberties. They apparently have a good tour and a nice cocktail bar on-site. You have to book ahead for weekday tours.
Roe & Co
Roe & Co is a new-ish whiskey distillery brand, with a distillery offering tours in the Liberties, right by the Guinness megalopolis.
They have blending and tasting experiences more than a tour, but they’re done well. And their cocktail bar is a spectacular space that serves some great cocktails.
Pearse Lyons
I’ve not visited here, but it looks spectacular. It’s a distillery built in an old church. They create whiskey and gin, and have a range of tours and experiences, including food pairings and afternoon teas.
Stillgarden
Right next door to Rascals Brewing, Stillgarden grow and forage their botanicals, then make small batch gin and other spirits using modern equipment, like rotary evaporators. We did their cocktail class a few weeks ago and it was great craic.
I kinda want to get some citric and malic acid and make my own acidulated simple syrup, to use in a Daisy cocktail now.
Easy access from the Blackhorse Luas stop on the red line, or a pleasant, if long, wander down the canal towpath.
Breweries
The night out will be at the Guinness Storehouse Experience, but there are a couple of other local breweries.
Rascals
We stopped in here for beer and pizza before visiting the Stillgarden Distillery next door. Good, interesting beer, really good pizza. I’ve no idea what the tour is like, but I’d visit again just for the pizza.
